This National Homelessness Week I’m walking with purpose and heart and I’d be honoured if you’d walk beside me or support from afar

Since 2018 I’ve taken part in Walk a Mile in My Boots to stand in solidarity with the more than 7,000 people in South Australia who are experiencing homelessness. This year I’ll be walking at least one mile a day to raise funds for the Hutt St Centre, which has been supporting people at risk of or experiencing homelessness for over 70 years.
Hutt St Centre is a place of hope. Every dollar raised goes toward meals, showers, laundry, health services and the critical support people need to find safety, stability and a path forward.
Last year I read The Salt Path by Raynor Winn. It’s a raw and powerful memoir that begins when Raynor and her husband Moth lose everything, their home, their health, their livelihood. With nothing but each other and the bare essentials on their backs they set out to walk the 630 mile South West Coast Path. It is a story of resilience, dignity and love amidst the harshest of circumstances. It reminded me how easily someone’s life can unravel and how courage and connection can carry us through.
If you can please consider making a donation, every little bit truly helps. But whether or not you’re in a position to give I would love for you to suggest a book for me to read during this year’s walk. Something that has stayed with you. Something topical, moving, hopeful or thought-provoking. I’ll be walking a lot and reading along (with my ears #audible) the way and your recommendation will mean a great deal to me.
If you’d like to join me for a walk I’d welcome the company.
Together step by step we can help end homelessness
