Let's end homelessness.
This profile image represents how I felt as a child when experiencing homelessness.
Have you ever walked straight past a homeless person on the street? We've all seen that. We're all probably guilty of it. And its in that moment we defined that person as invisible to us.
My Mum was on her own with 5 children. She struggled and didn't know where to go for support. We spent time couch hopping, living in a shelter and even some time living in a tent in someones driveway.
We didn't have the support we needed and relied on the kindness of strangers.
It was the continued kindness from strangers that changed my entire life. Pivotal moments that lead me to a better future. We all have the power to be a pivotal person to someones life for positive change.
Nobody should ever feel invisible, worthless or as if there was no purpose to their life.
Our definition of success in life should lie in our hearts and the kindness we give from them.
If there is one message I could leave with people who are struggling with homelessness, mental illness, worthlessness or self doubt - is to just 'Encourage your feet'
If you can tell your feet to move, they will lead you to where you need to be. If you are moving, you are going forwards and going forwards means progress.
On Friday 7 August, I’ll be taking part in the Walk a Mile challenge to raise funds for the 6,000 people experiencing homelessness just in SA alone.
All funds go to Hutt St Centre who have been supporting people for more than 65 years by providing a meal, hot shower, and safe space.
Please take a moment to make a donation.
Give up your morning coffee or takeaway lunch and be someone that creates change to another persons life. You will never know how deeply and positively you can impact someone with your kindness.
If you are free on Friday the 7th of August please join me on the Walk a Mile Challenge. I will be walking the Barossa Trail from Nuriootpa to Angaston return at 9am.
Together we can end homelessness.
