Supporting those who need support
On Friday 7 August, I’ll be walking 13.7 miles (or 22km) to raise funds for the Hutt St Centre who have been supporting homeless people for more than 65 years by providing a hearty meal, a hot shower, all in a safe, welcoming space. I've been fortunate enough to see the work Hutt Street Centre's team does first hand on a few volunteer shifts and it hits home how fortunate one is for the simple reality of having always had a roof over one's head every night.
I'm hoping to raise $636 - which is enough to provide safe emergency accommodation for two family in crisis for three nights each - given the current economic climate, this money could be really helpful to the Hutt Street Centre support those who suddenly hit hard times.
According to Hutt Street:
$54 can provide practical assistance such as a hot however, laundry service, locker for 2 months for a person sleeping rough
$77 can provide a breakfast and lunch for 2 weeks for a person sleeping rough.
$127 can provide a home start-up pack for a couple moving from the street to a home.
$318 can provide safe emergency accommodation for a family in crisis for three nights.
Walk a Mile Challenge is part of National Homelessness Week and I’d be so grateful for your support! If you can’t join me (I’d welcome the company), please give generously to my donation page.
Together we can help end homelessness.
